October Snail Mail Inspiration - Autumn, Fall and Hallowe'en

Annette Raffan

It's that time of year when the weather turns, the nights get cold and the leaves start to fall. What better way to embrace the changing seasons, than curling up with some stamps and envelopes and getting some inspiration!

In this post I've pulled together some great autumnal and Hallowe'en inspired stamps and mail art to get you creating.

Autumn and fall colours

You'll most likely want to use postage stamps with browns, yellows, oranges and reds for your fall and autumn-inspired designs. Don't be afraid to add in some green or blue-green to those autumn colour palettes. Coolors is one of my favourite colour palette generators. This autumn-inspired palette is trending:

This is a trending colour palette and feels very autumnal. From Coolors.com

Other palettes, like the one below, have a little blue-green in there to balance the reds:

A lovely autumnal palette with deep reds and a "dark slate grey" to offset them

I picked out some used bulk stamp collections from my shop which match some of these colours:

These are great for crafty projects and adding to mail.

Lovely autumn postage stamps out this month for your autumn and fall snail mail

As for unused stamps you could use on your mail, here's some recent releases available as of October 2025.

Here in the UK, they have this cute mushroom set with a rather handy 5x 2nd and 5x 1st values set. This is a great set to to put on your mail at this time of year.

If you are looking for Halloween stamps from the UK I think the only offering is from the 2019 GB 'Curious Customs' set.

Here's mine within the full set - I won a this set in a Presentation Pack from Positively Postal! I've been thinking about a project to use these for... perhaps now is the time.

For the US, then the Jack-O-Lanterns set of 1994 is a perfect one for some Hallowe'en inspired mail.

Mail Art Inspiration

Here's an envelope I made last year:

Fun pumpkin and autumn vibes with this envelope.

I tried to go Halloween on this order.!

I really like the leaf stamps. I think to get this colour I stamped first in black on an extra sheet of paper, then used my orange without fully cleaning the extra black ink of the stamp.

And if you are looking to get kids inspired, here is (was) my 6 year old daughter's envelope:

She loved adding the leaves.

And I don't think there is anymore beautiful a selection of autumn-inspired envelopes than this collection of envelopes from Lindsay Bugbee at The Postman's Knock.

Until next autumn, stay crafty
